Why Choose a Certified Restoration Firm?

To return your home to its pre-loss condition, the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) recommends that you only hire a professional Certified Restoration Firm with Certified Technicians. In order to achieve IICRC-certified status, firms must meet a rigorous list of standards in business ethics and expertise. This is not the job for a do-it-yourself property owner or unskilled contractors. restoration to your home can be complex. Proper water, smoke, mold or odor removal are tasks that require technicians certified in these specific areas.

When selecting a Certified Restoration Firm several factors must be considered:

  • Is the company Certified with the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC)?
  • Does the company have current Certified Technician’s and Supervisors?
  • Does the company work for the Insurance Carrier or are they working for you, the homeowner?
  • Check online for positive reviews. If you can’t find any reviews, or there are few reviews, this should be a “red flag”. Restoration companies that work for the insurance carrier typically will have few positive reviews as they don’t work for you, the homeowner, so their phone will always ring from the insurance carriers.
  • Always check the Better Business Bureau to see if the company is accredited, if they have any complaints, and if they have any positive/negative reviews.
  • Are the technicians doing the actual work Certified Technicians and not just “laborers”?
  • Does the company subcontract out the work to the lowest bidder or are they employed?
  • Has the company agreed to use insurance carrier estimating/pricing software? If so, it is hard to maintain skilled and professional craftsman at the price they agree to forcing subpar workmanship.
